After the Dazzle of Day

for orchestra
Duration: 5 minutes

Program notes:
After the Dazzle of Day is loosely inspired by the Whitman poem of the same name. It was composed during one of the longest stretches of record-breaking heat in Louisville, Kentucky – four of these days were survived without air conditioning in the house.

After the dazzle of day is gone,
Only the dark, dark night shows to my eyes the stars;
After the clangor of organ majestic, or chorus, or perfect band,
Silent, athwart my soul, moves the symphony true.

Composed for and premiered at The Seasons Festival, 2010. The Yakima Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Conductor Fellow Jim Stopher.
